Maternal Child

Caring for the next generation

The Maternal Child Program at the Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) serves expectant mothers and pregnant individuals, patients in the birthing period and children.

To keep all patients safe, our Maternal Child Program has locked door access. This is an integral part of our safety features for newborn babies and children. In order to access this unit, you are required to ring the doorbell to gain access.

The program is comprised of four separate areas
Labour and Delivery

Our team of obstetrical care providers includes physicians and midwives. TADH has four private labour and delivery rooms and one traditional delivery suite. Up to two (2) support persons are permitted to accompany mothers during labour and birth. Early bonding, skin to skin and feeding are encouraged while mother and newborn baby are monitored.

Caesarian sections are performed in the Operating Room. The immediate recovery care will be provided in the Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU).

After the delivery, the health care team will support the mother by offering opportunities to learn about self and baby care, and to begin to become comfortable in the new role as a parent. The typical length of stay after a vaginal birth is 24 to 48 hours, and following a Cesarean Section birth is 48 to 60 hours.

Maternity

The maternity unit provides compassionate care and support for expectant mothers and their families. Offering a range of services, from prenatal care to labor and delivery, the unit is equipped with modern facilities to ensure the health and comfort of both mother and baby. Staffed by skilled health care professionals, the team is dedicated to delivering personalized care throughout the birthing experience.

Pediatrics

The pediatrics unit is dedicated to providing high-quality care for infants, children, and adolescents. With a focus on family-centered care, the unit offers a range of services, including diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing support for various pediatric conditions. The skilled and compassionate health care team ensures a comfortable, child-friendly environment, promoting the well-being and recovery of young patients.

Outpatient Services – Obstetrical Pre-Admission Clinic

Individuals who plan to give birth at TADH, or at home under the care of a midwife, are strongly encouraged to visit the Obstetrical Pre-Admission Clinic.

After the 28th week of pregnancy, pregnant patients are provided an envelope containing a questionnaire to be completed. This information allows our care team to know about each patient’s medical history, prenatal history, and any special circumstances or needs.

To book an appointment please call 705-267-2131 ext. 6362 between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.
