Staying Safe

Committed to your safety

The Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) is committed to ensuring our patients have access to safe, quality care for those accessing our services. The following policies and processes are designed to keep our hospital a safe place for patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.

Scent-free Environment

As way to protect the health and well-being of our patients, visitors, staff, and physicians, we kindly request that you don’t wear or use scented products while on hospital property.

Scented products can cause allergic reactions, respiratory distress and other significant health issues for our patients, visitors, staff and physicians.

Cellphone Use at TADH

Ensuring the privacy of our patients is one of our top priorities. The use of cellphones in and other wireless devices may be limited in patient care and other areas of the hospital.

All patients and visitors are required to follow the directions of TADH staff and physicians regarding the use cellphones and other wireless devices.

Infection Prevention and Control

Hospital acquired infections are one of the most common types of adverse events that occur with hospitalized patients. Our Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) team works hard to ensure that your stay is as safe as possible, but we need your help. Here are some things you can do to reduce the risk of hospital acquired infections for yourself or those you visit:

  • Wash your hands often using soap and water, or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer stations are located at all entrances, the entrances to all units and at the doors of all patient rooms. We recommend that you sanitize your hands before entering and exiting any patient rooms.
  • Please do not visit any patients in hospital if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

    • Fever or chills

    • Cough or sore throat

    • Shortness of breath

    • Nausea or vomiting

    • Diarrhea

  • TADH remains a mask-friendly environment for our inpatient and outpatient areas. Masks are available at all hospital entrances and we encourage you to ask any member of your care team to wear a mask while providing direct patient care if that makes you more comfortable.

Slips, Trips and Falls

TADH is committed to preventing slips, trips, and falls for patients, visitors, staff and physicians. To prevent injury:

  • Make sure that you can reach the call bell if you if are in bed, sitting in a chair or in the washroom. You can ask a member of your care team to set up the call bell where you are most comfortable reaching for it.
  • Ask for help if you need to use the bathroom or require help to sit up or stand. Bed alarms are available for patients who may be a fall risk. If you are concerned that your loved one may be at risk for a fall, please reach out to a member of their care team with your concern.
  • Wear slippers or shoes with non-skid soles that fit well.
  • Keep your room free from clutter or other tripping hazards. If you need help picking up items that have fallen, please reach out to a member of your care team.
  • Reach out to a member of your care team if you feel dizzy or tired. Some medications can make people unsteady on their feet.
  • Any mobility aids, like a wheelchair or walker, should be in good working order. If you have any concerns about your mobility aids, please reach out to a member of your care team.
