Rehabilitation Assistant

Position Overview

To support the professional staff in assigned aspects of patient care and general department duties. To collaborate with NESGC, Geriatric Specialized Care services including mobile team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and assist clients in their transfers, ambulation, exercises, and any other activities where the need exists, under the supervision and guidance of a physiotherapist or occupational therapist
  • To assist patients/residents with wax treatments, hot packs, and ice packs.
  • To encourage clients to increase activity levels.
  • To encourage clients to increase participation in activities.
  • To implement treatment programs and exercises with patients/residents, under the direction of a therapist.
  • To maintain a caseload of patients on routine programs.
  • To maintain a clean and orderly department.
  • To instruct patients in the correct and safe use of crutches, walkers, and canes.
  • To document objective information in accordance with the reporting guidelines of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • To gather and compile statistical information monthly.
  • To perform other duties as designated by therapists.

Position Requirements

  • Rehabilitation Assistant Certification or Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Assistant certifications required or equivalent education and experience.
  • May be a graduate of an approved Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy Assistant Program or equivalent
  • Clear Criminal Background check mandatory.
  • Must have the physical ability to stoop, bend and reach for and to lift patients when assisting with the application of rehabilitation techniques.
  • Must possess the ability to understand instructions, to follow office procedures and to exercise good judgment.
  • Employment history which demonstrates regular attendance at work.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) would be considered an asset.
  • All TADH staff members must follow the COVID-19 vaccination series in accordance with the most up-to-date vaccine guidance provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary of $35.19/hour; $68,620.50/year (As per Step 1 of the OPSEU collective agreement.)
  • Option to enroll into Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.
