The New Year Brings New Specialists to Timmins and District Hospital

Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) is thrilled to welcome two new specialists who have joined the roster of skilled physicians practicing at the hospital: Dr. Lydia Goff, an orthopedic surgeon, and Dr. Natasha Larocque, a radiologist.

“Dr. Goff’s practice includes general orthopedics with a subspecialty focus in trauma, while Dr. Larocque brings sought-after experience as a radiologist,” said President and CEO Kate Fyfe. “Both are fantastic additions to the TADH team and will make a tremendous impact on the care available to people in the communities served by the hospital.”

Dr. Goff completed a Medical Doctorate at the University of Montreal in 2018, an Orthopedic Residency at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2023, and a Trauma Fellowship at Western University last year.  She was introduced to TADH by a good friend and colleague, Dr. Kayla Cyr, who invited her to do some locum work at the hospital, which she did over the course of a year.

“I enjoyed my locum visits here,” Dr. Goff said. “They kept me busy and all the staff and patients were so kind. So, when I was offered a permanent job, TADH had already made a good impression on me with the opportunity to work in a team with excellent colleagues. ”

Dr. Goff added that she is looking forward to the work and living in the community: “In moving to Timmins, I am very excited to provide a broad trauma resource to Northern Ontario and to be able to discover the outdoors in this region.”

Dr. Larocque completed a Medical Doctorate at the University of Ottawa in 2015, a Diagnostic Radiology residency training at McMaster University in 2020, followed by a one-year clinical fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston in Abdominal Imaging and Intervention. She previously held the post of Radiologist and Assistant Professor for the past four years at Hamilton General Hospital, affiliated with McMaster University.

“What drew me to TADH is the collegial staff, wide scope of practice, and very welcoming community. I have also always wanted to live in a smaller town,” said Dr. Larocque, who is from Hamilton.

What she appreciates about the area is the close connection to the outdoors. “I have a young family, so I am looking forward to being a stone’s throw away from local hikes and other outdoor activities,” said Dr. Larocque. “I’m also looking forward to having real winters again so I can enjoy winter activities such as snowshoeing.”

TADH continues to work to recruit other high caliber candidates to provide exemplary care to people living in its very large catchment area.
