Position Overview

To co-ordinate, perform and document all activities involved in the Ultrasound Service. Exercises professional judgment in performance of duties and maintains a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics.

Position Responsibilities

Contributes to the development of departmental philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures. Enforces all established policies and procedures of the program.

      • To adhere to hospital and departmental policies and procedures
      • To appraise them, report their effectiveness and make recommendations to the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging
      • To understand and respect the responsibilities of associates in the Hospital and to support them wherever possible in the achievement of their objectives.
      • To be a team player, support the team leader to ensure optimal patient care.
  • To provide high quality diagnostic images for all patients referred to the Department of Diagnostic Imaging.
  • To take all necessary precautions for the protection of patients by adhering to the Federal and Provincial standards.
  • To maintain strict confidentiality of all patients and hospital information.
  • To develop and maintain effective working relationships with imaging staff, other departments, medical staff and community agencies and to inform them of any changes or developments which may affect them.
  • To maintain good public relations by making the Hospital resources known to the Community and by utilizing the resources of the Community for the benefit of the patient and the hospital.
  • To ensure a healthy and safe working environment in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety guidelines.
  • To adhere to the Standards of Practice for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • To assist with the training of Ultrasound students as required under the direction of the Clinical Instructor.
  • Must be available to travel and work in a multi-site environment. This position will be based 1 week in Moose Factory and 1 week at TADH, on a rotational basis.
  • All other duties are captured in the applicable Job Description.
  • Bilingualism in both official languages would be an asset.
  • All TADH staff members must follow the COVID-19 vaccination series in accordance with the most up-to-date vaccine guidance provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health.

Position Requirements

  • Must be an active member, in good standing, with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario licensed to practice Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Must possess the ability to perform scanning responsibilities, which require the precise attainment of images within strict limits, tolerance and standards, and to make independent decision to ensure optimal patient care and efficient operation of the department.
  • Must possess the verbal ability to communicate orally with patients, physicians and other medical personnel in order to provide and receive information or instruction and to write clear, concise and accurate technical impressions.
  • Must possess the numerical ability to make mathematical calculations quickly and accurately for a particular treatment plan.
  • Must possess excellent ocular/motor skills to provide optimal Ultrasound Images.
  • Must possess the perception to review images and complete Technologist impression sheets for Quality Assurance Purposes.
  • Must have the physical capacity to perform medium work, requiring lifting and positioning of equipment and patients and the ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Employment History which demonstrates regular attendance at work.
  • Meditech / PACS experience would be an asset.
  • Must possess the ability to provide effective services to clients/patients in English, French and/or Cree.
  • Previous experience and/or training in adult echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, and / or another Diagnostic Imaging Modality would be considered an asset.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary of $36.84/hour; $71,838.00/year (As per Step 1 of the OPSEU collective agreement.)
  • Option to enroll into Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.
