Position Overview

Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support patients in improving their communication, swallowing, and cognitive-communication skills.

Position Responsibilities

  • Assessment & Evaluation: Perform detailed assessments of patients’ speech, language, communication, and swallowing abilities to identify impairments and establish rehabilitation goals.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on the assessment results, patient needs, and evidence-based practices for stroke rehabilitation.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Deliver therapeutic interventions to address speech disorders, language difficulties, cognitive-communication challenges, and swallowing disorders using various techniques and approaches.
  • Patient & Family Education: Educate patients and their families about communication strategies, swallowing techniques, and home exercises to support the rehabilitation process.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes in accordance with hospital policies and professional standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and contribute to a holistic rehabilitation approach.
  • Community Outreach: Participate in community education efforts to raise awareness about stroke prevention, recovery, and available rehabilitation services.

Position Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and a valid license to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Ontario.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in a similar rehabilitation setting, with experience in stroke rehabilitation preferred.
  • Expertise in the assessment and treatment of speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders related to stroke.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to implement effective, evidence-based treatment plans and interventions.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records and clinical documentation.
  • Patient-centered, empathetic, and dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for patients.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • All TADH staff members must follow the COVID-19 vaccination series in accordance with the most up-to-date vaccine guidance provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary of $44.67/hour – $87,106.50/year (as per step 1 of the OPSEU collective agreement).
  • Option to enroll in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.
