Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the carpenter will perform

general construction duties to maintain/replace building infrastructure. We are seeking an enthusiastic and hardworking Yard Maintenance Worker to join our team. The Yard Maintenance Worker will be responsible for performing various tasks to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of our organization’s grounds and outdoor areas.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform regular yard maintenance tasks such as driving a tractor for snow removal, mowing lawns, raking leaves, and removing debris to keep the ground clean and presentable.
  • Trim hedges, bushes, and trees maintain their shape and promote healthy growth.
  • Plant and maintain flowers, plants, and other greenery to enhance the aesthetics of the outdoor areas.
  • Weed, edge, and mulch flower beds to prevent overgrowth and maintain a tidy appearance.
  • Maintain and clean equipment and tools used for yard maintenance.
  • Assist in irrigation system maintenance, checking for leaks and ensuring proper functioning.
  • Identify and treat plant diseases, pests, and other issues using safe and environmentally friendly methods.
  • Ensure all safety protocols and procedures are followed while operating equipment and handling chemicals.
  • Perform regular inspections of the grounds to identify potential hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to develop and implement landscaping plans and improvements.
  • Assist in snow and ice removal during winter months, using appropriate tools and techniques.

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Proven experience in yard maintenance or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of horticulture practices, including plant care, pest control, and irrigation systems.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a Tractor and various yard maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of safety protocols and procedures when handling tools, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (is required).
  • Bilingualism (French and English) would be considered an asset.
  • All TADH staff members must follow the COVID-19 vaccination series in accordance with the most up-to-date vaccine guidance provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary of $27.27/hour; $53,176.50/year (As per Step 1 of the STW collective agreement.)
  • Option to enroll into Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.
