Visiting the Hospital
The Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) supports patient and family-centered care. Family members are an important part of the health care team and contribute to the caring and healing process of the patient. Below you will find all the information regarding visiting the hospital.
General Visitation Guidelines
Immediate family and support persons are welcome in the hospital and are encouraged to support and provide comfort to patients. Visitation times and the number of visitors can be amended to meet the compassionate and special care needs of the patient. The health care team, along with the patient, will determine what visiting modifications are required on an individual basis.
- Visitors must wash their hands on entering the hospital, on entering the patient room, after any contact with the patient or items in their room, on leaving the patient room, and on leaving the hospital.
- Visitors must not visit if they display any symptoms of ill health that is different from their normal state health, such as: fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches, fatigue, headache, nausea, vomiting etc.
- No more than two visitors per patient at any one time including children.
- All arrangements for children under the age of 12 to visit must be made in collaboration with the health are team. A responsible person must supervise children under the age of 12.
- During outbreak situations when the hospital is experiencing clusters or wide scale incidents of infectious and/or contagious conditions, the visiting policy may be unilaterally amended as appropriate by the CEO or designate.
- The hospital and its staff may, in their sole discretion, acting reasonably, restrict a visitor’s access to the hospital or to a particular patient where such a restriction is in the best interest of a patient or patients of the hospital.
General Visiting Hours
- Medical: Monday to Sunday – 11:00 am to 8:00 pm
- Continuing Care: Monday to Sunday – 11:00 am to 8:00 pm
- Maternal Child: Monday to Sunday – 11:00 am to 8:00 pm
- Obstetrics & Maternity: Monday to Sunday – 11:00 am to 8:00 pm
- Surgical: Monday to Sunday – 11:00 am to 8:00 pm
- Paediatrics: Monday to Sunday – 24 hours a day
- Critical Care: Monday to Sunday – 24 hours a day (except 8:00 am to 9:00 am; and 8:00 to 9:00 pm)
- Emergency: Monday to Sunday – 24 hours a day (except 7:00 to 8:00 am; and 7:00 to 8:00 pm)
- Dialysis & Oncology: During treatment periods
Inpatient Mental Health Unit (MHU)
The Mental Health Unit (MHU) is a 20 bed acute care unit for adults, 18 years of age or older, who are in acute psychiatric distress. The health care team works with the patient and their families to provide short term assessments, consultations, treatment, stabilization and discharge planning.
Visiting Hours
- Monday to Sunday: 2:00 to 4:00 pm
- Monday to Sunday: 6:00 to 8:00 pm
Unit Visitation Guidelines
Patients are permitted up to two (2) visitors. Visitors under the age of 18 years require the approval from the MHU Charge Nurse.
- Visitation will be assessed on an ongoing basis.
- Cellphones must remain off for the duration of the visit.
- Items brought in for patients must be checked by MHU Security or Nurse for safety purposes.
Inpatient Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit (CAMHU)
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit (CAMHU) is an acute care unit for youth, 17 years of age or younger, who are in acute psychiatric distress. Working in collaboration with North Eastern Ontario Child and Family Services (NEOFACS), this 4 bed unit provides in-patient treatment to adolescents at risk of harming themselves or others, or struggling with acute symptoms of mental illness.
Visitation Hours
- Monday to Sunday: 2:00 to 4:00 pm
- Monday to Sunday: 6:00 to 8:00 pm
Unit Visitation Guidelines
Patients are permitted visitation from immediate family only, with no visitation from those under the age of 18 years. All visitors must be approved by the patient’s Guardian.
- Visitation will be assessed on an ongoing basis.
- Cellphones must remain off for the duration of the visit.
- Items brought in for patients must be checked by MHU Security or nurse for safety purposes.
