Board Chair Announces CEO Retirement

Message from the Chair of the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of the Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) announces that Kathleen “Kate” Fyfe, President and Chief Executive Officer, has provided notice of her intention to retire in early 2026.

Kate joined TADH in July 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She stepped into the role during one of the most challenging periods in modern healthcare and provided steady, thoughtful leadership as the organization and its clinicians faced the uncertainty and intensity of the pandemic response.

Beyond the pandemic, Kate helped the hospital navigate significant financial pressures and supported the board’s long-range planning for stability and sustainability. She played an instrumental role in guiding the development of the hospital’s capital master plan, positioning TADH to meet the needs of patients and families well into the future. This included helping secure government approval for the Emergency Department capital redevelopment project, a milestone that will strengthen the hospital’s capacity for years to come.

Kate has also been central in shaping the hospital’s management and leadership team. She brought a focus on collaboration, accountability, and professional development, helping build a strong foundation for the next chapter of TADH. Her work has ensured that the organization is well prepared as the search for a new CEO begins.

Kate’s public service career has been distinguished. Her path includes important roles in municipal government, senior leadership positions in healthcare across Northern Ontario, serving as Acting CEO of the former Local Health Integration Network, and ultimately being appointed CEO of TADH. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to public service and to improving care for the communities she has served.

It has been a privilege to serve TADH and the communities of Northeastern Ontario. Over these past years, I have witnessed firsthand how meaningful progress in health care happens when we work together — staff, physicians, Indigenous leaders, municipal leaders, regional organizations, business partners, and community members all aligned in a shared commitment to improving the health of Northerners.

The strength of these partnerships has allowed us to navigate challenging times while advancing important priorities for the future of care in our region. As I prepare for retirement, I am deeply grateful for the relationships, the trust, and the shared belief that we can always do better when we do it together. I leave confident in the future and deeply thankful for the people who will carry it forward.

– Kate Fyfe

The Board offers its sincere appreciation to Kate for her leadership, dedication, and steady presence during her time at TADH. We wish her well as she enters retirement and spends time with her family and friends.

The Board will begin the search for the next President and CEO in the new year with the support of Waterhouse Executive Search. Kate will work closely with the hospital’s management team and Board to ensure a smooth and well-supported transition. More details of the process will be shared in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

Kraymr Grenke
Chair of the Board of Directors
