Update: VRE and MRSA Cluster at Timmins and District Hospital

VRE and MRSA Cluster Update at Timmins and District Hospital

Timmins, ON – Timmins and District Hospital is providing the public with an update on our Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) and/or Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) outbreak on Medical C unit.

The Hospital in consultation with the Porcupine Health Unit will be moving the isolation patients from Medical C unit to a separate area on the 3rd Floor. We are continuing the visitor restrictions on this unit until further notice. In addition we are asking for the public’s assistance with the following:

  • Visitors to 3C on the 3rd floor will remain closed until further notice
  • Visitor restrictions to the Pediatrics Unit are now lifted
  • All visitors to all other units will be required to wash their hands upon entering and leaving the Hospital and before and after visiting patients at the Hospital
  • All individuals with cold, flu, or gastro-like symptoms (cough, fever, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea) are not to visit any patients in the Hospital

All other units and departments at the Hospital continue to run as “business as usual”.

These measures are taken to minimize the risk of transmission from/to patients and we ask the public for their cooperation in this matter.

The Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) is a level C, fully accredited community, referral and teaching hospital serving the residents of the City of Timmins and Cochrane District as well as the adjoining areas of the Temiskaming, Sudbury and Algoma districts.
