Breast Wellness Center - The creation of the Breast Wellness Center at TDH is earmarked for 2015 with construction beginning shortly. The new centre will create a more comfortable and patient-oriented environment for patients in the district and surrounding communities.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Canadian women, affecting one in nine women in their lifetime.

In 2013, an estimated 9,300 Ontario women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 1,950 will die from this disease.

Breast cancer occurs primarily in women 50 to 74 years of age

Most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease.

Less than 1% of women in the general population are estimated to be at high risk for breast cancer.

There is no way to prevent breast cancer yet, but if breast cancer is found early, when it is very small, there is a good chance it can be cured.

Men also have breast tissue and can develop breast diseases, including cancer.

Breast cancer in men is rare (less than 1%). In 2013, an estimated 23,800 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 200 cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in men. Although the risk of male breast cancer is low, it does happen.
