Timmins, ON, Tuesday, September 6, 2016, Family Medicine residents and Medical Students (Clinical Clerks) from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) were welcomed to Timmins at the annual welcome event hosted by the Timmins Local NOSM Group.  

This is part of an ongoing partnership between NOSM and the Timmins and District Hospital that recognizes TADH as a teaching site.

The Family Medicine residents will undertake two years of Family Medicine Residency training in Timmins while the medical students will commence an eight month clinical clerkship.  Clerkship provides students with clinical experiences away from the main campuses of Sudbury and Thunder Bay and also places learners in Bracebridge, Dryden, Fort Frances, Hearst, Huntsville, Kapuskasing, Kenora, Manitoulin Island, Midland, North Bay, Parry Sound, Sault Ste. Marie, Sioux Lookout and Temiskaming Shores.

Learners will undertake a wide range of clinical learning activities throughout the community and Hospital through assignments in primary care Family Medicine clinics, the Emergency Department, various specialists and with allied health providers.

Learners are given the opportunity to learn and participate in care of patients in a distinctively Northern environment and enhance knowledge and skills under the supervision of experienced clinicians. The patients, physicians and staff play a vital role in educating future doctors and health-care providers to be competent and caring physicians.

Community members and Hospital staff who make up the Timmins Local NOSM Group recognize the importance of a smooth integration into the community and Hospital.  Learners make career and practice location decisions often based on the relationships they develop with physicians and other health care professionals while learning in clinical environments.

The Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) is a level C, fully accredited referral and teaching hospital serving the residents of the City of Timmins and Cochrane District as well as the adjoining areas of the Temiskaming, Sudbury and Algoma districts.
