TIMMINS, February 28, 2017 – Patients and family caregivers in Timmins were given the opportunity to nominate their providers for a Patients’ Choice Award, a unique initiative where patients submit narrative-based nominations that explain how their provider practice the kind of care that patients value. A patient jury acknowledged Dr. Rachel Maisonneuve and Dr. Jean-Luc Ethier as the two winners.
Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) partnered with Patients Canada and the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) to host the award, and a special ceremony to honor the winners took place on Wednesday, February 22.
“The Patients’ Choice Awards recognize physicians who exemplify qualities such as compassion, quality care, and dedication to their patient’s wellbeing” said Dr. Harry Voogjarv, Chief of Staff/VP Medicine, Timmins and District Hospital.
“We are very fortunate in this community to have a team of collegial physicians who go the extra mile for their patients and make significant contributions to the health and well-being of their community. I would like to congratulate this year’s winners and thank Patient’s Canada and the OMA for bringing these awards to Timmins”.

The winning physicians Dr. Rachel Maisonneuve and Dr. Jean-Luc Ethier demonstrated their commitment to putting patients first in Timmins. The value of the Patients' Choice Awards is in how it identifies the qualities of patient and family-centred care, and through this we better understand what matters to patients.”
